Description: Indian Literature in Translation is a sophomore level course designed to introduce students to the study of Indian literature from antiquity to present. With a broad overview that stretches back to ancient texts, students begin their exploration by considering the geographic, historic, political, and cultural factors that continue to shape the world’s largest democracy. As India contains a myriad of religious traditions, cultures and languages, the course examines their impact upon the literature produced both in India and in the broader Indian diaspora.
