Winter 2025


OPEN HOUSE: JACKSON SCHOOL OF INTERNATIONAL STUDIES
Wednesday, January 22, from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Thomson Hall (THO 111, 120, 317, and the stairwell – featuring posters from previous Task Force classes)
This event aims to create a welcoming environment with refreshments, allowing students and other campus partners to engage with us and learn more about our programs. We plan to unveil some new wall décor as part of this event! The stairwells in Thomson Hall will feature an array of posters, including framed works from our past Task Force capstone classes. Additionally, the winning artwork from the 2025 Jackson School Photography Competition will be displayed in Thomson 317, 111, and the new Undergraduate Student Lounge (THO 120), available to all JSIS majors.

MOVIE NIGHT: JACKSON SCHOOL
Wednesday, February 12, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Thomson Hall (THO 317)
Join us for a screening of the film *Little Voices from Fukushima* by Hitomi Kamanaka, featuring Professor Andrea Arai. Enjoy pizza and popcorn as we engage in an insightful discussion following the film presentation designed for students.

INTERNATIONAL STUDIES MAJOR INFORMATION SESSION
Wednesday, February 19, from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. at Thomson Hall (THO 101)
We’d love for you to join us to discover more about the International Studies Major from current students, advisers, and faculty! We’ll have pizza available on a first come, first served basis, so come hungry! Bring your questions, and let’s dive into the world of International Studies together!

FLAS FELLOWSHIP INFO SESSIONS
Wednesday, January 22, from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m.Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025, 1:30 – 2:30 p.m.Monday, January 27, 2025, 3:00 – 4:00 p.m
FLAS Fellowships support undergraduate, graduate and professional students in acquiring modern foreign languages and area studies competencies. The FLAS Fellowship is available to full-time UW students in any department who are U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or nationals. UW FLAS Fellowships are awarded for the study of the following languages: Bangla – Burmese – Chinese – Hindi – Indonesian – Inuktut – Japanese – Khmer – Korean – Persian – Tagalog – Thai – Urdu – Vietnamese. Graduate students only: French (intermediate or advanced only).
