Comparative Religion MA student Joyeeta Das recently contributed a story to Tumulayan, an annual literary journal published by the students of the Centre for Comparative Literature at Visva-Bharati University in Shantiniketan, West Bengal, India.
Das writes of her contribution:
This is my third and first-ever Bangla contribution to Tumulayan, a prestigious magazine published by Rabindranath Tagore’s Viswa Bharati University. My publication is a non-fictitious fiction inspired by a nocturnal conversation between me and my friend.
My initial thoughts were to publish this non-fictitious fiction in English so that it could reach wider audiences. However, halfway through the translation, I realised that translating a (Bangla) conversation embellished with Bengali rhetorics in English without disturbing the essence seemed almost impossible. Consequently, I decided to keep the language intact before contributing this creative piece to the 2024 edition of Tumulayan.
