Joyeeta Das
About
Joyeeta Das (She/Her) is a Top Scholar Fellow in the Department of Comparative Religion at the University of Washington. Holding a Master’s degree in English Literature as an Indira Gandhi Scholar from the English and Foreign Languages University, Joyeeta recognized the biblical nature of literature as a cultural manifestation. This insight inspired her to explore the nature of literary works and the cultural renditions of Hinduism.
Currently, Joyeeta is deeply motivated to examine issues surrounding women and menstruation as perceived by various denominations of Hinduism. She is particularly interested in the rituals performed by Hindu women during menstruation. In addition to her focus on Hinduism, Joyeeta has a strong fascination with Buddhism, and she seeks to investigate Buddhist perspectives on women and menstruation, as well as the associated rituals.
Joyeeta is proficient in Bangla and Hindi. She aspires to gain proficiency in Sanskrit, Prakrit, and Pali while at the University of Washington.
Alongside her academic pursuits, Joyeeta engages in creative writing to get a whiff of rhetoric(s). Her short stories and publications can be accessed here. Additionally, she is an abstract painter and photographer. As an ambulophile and a devoted practitioner of yoga and meditation, Joyeeta is eager to embrace hiking as a new avocation in Seattle.
