South Asia Center FLAS Fellow, Academic Year 2022-23 (Persian)

My name is Muhammad Abdulqayumov, and I am a graduate student at JSIS. After moving from Kulob, Tajikistan to Pullman, Washington, I graduated with a BA in Political Science from Washington State University. Currently, my thesis focuses on how Russia’s role as a military power and “protector” has changed in Central Asia since the fall of the USSR, through analysis of Russian military presence in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan from 1991-2021.
