About

South Asia Center FLAS Fellow, Academic Year 2022-23 and 2023-24 (Hindi)

Kaya Mallick is a graduate student and a FLAS Fellow in the South Asia Studies program at JSIS. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in playwriting from Ohio University in 2020, which inspired her to study the socio-cultural implications of religious drama in South Asia. Her research focuses on Hindu women’s ritual performances, especially as they pertain to Yoga and other ascetic practices. Despite her Bengali origin, she studies Hindi—her family is very disappointed.

Kaya is also a practitioner and instructor of modern postural Yoga. She offers vinyasa and Yin style classes at a local studio. Through her own practice and research, she strives towards the decolonization of Yoga.
