Joel Slominski is a sophomore pursuing degrees in both linguistics and anthropology with a focus on sociolinguistics. He is currently studying Urdu as a FLAS fellow and will study other South Asian and Middle Eastern languages in the future. Joel’s love for languages began while learning Spanish, and he hopes to continue learning and using new languages while traveling abroad. Slominski was previously awarded a STEM scholarship through AFROTC but found a passion in linguistics and elected to pursue a FLAS fellowship instead.
