Geeta Iyer

South Asia Center FLAS Fellow: Academic Year 2020-21

Hello my name is Geeta Iyer and I am a junior at the University of Washington. I am pursuing a double major in economics and international studies, specifically on the political economy track within the Jackson School.

I am so honored to be a FLAS recipient in Urdu. Coming to UW, I was always inspired and amazed by the various languages offered at the school. With this in mind, I chose to pursue Urdu my sophomore year in order to fulfill the language requirement for the JSIS major. However, soon after the course started I knew Urdu was a bigger passion. The language is so beautiful, and learning to write the script has been a fun, challenging experience. I have also created strong bonds with my peers and teachers as well.

In the future I hope to explore careers in international business, public policy, or law. On campus I am on the executive board for my Panhellenic sorority, a committee chair for ASUW senate, and the team lead coordinator and a campus tour guide for the UW office of admissions.
