Ashfaq is interested in how the modern constitutional democratic states reduce people to Homo Sacer. He is a research scholar at the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies (JSIS), University of Washington, Seattle. Before joining the JSIS, he completed his MPhil from Humanities and Social Sciences at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B), India and his Masters degree from the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, India. He has presented his work at international conferences such as Interpretive Policy Analysis Conference. Open Camp as a Biopolitical Paradigm: A Case of Kashmir is his forthcoming book with Palgrave Macmillan, Springer Nature.
