UW South Asia at the Association for Asian Studies Conference

From March 22nd to March 25th the Association for Asian Studies annual conference will take place in Washington, DC at the Marriot Wardman Hotel. Five representatives of the UW South Asia Center will deliver presentations and serve as discussants on panels.

 

Panel 17 is dedicated to associate professor of art history Sonal Khullar‘s Cohn prize winning book Worldly Affiliations. Professor Khullar will be a panel member.

Assistant professor of Asian Languages & Literature, Jennifer Dubrow will deliver a presentation “Manto, Bedi, and Krishan Chander: Progressive Fiction between Realism and Modernism “

Panel 18: From Progressivism to Experimentalism: Shared Affiliations in Modern Hindi and Urdu Literature, 1930-1960

Associate professor of International Studies, Sunila Kale will be a discussant.

Panel 173: South Asia and the Environmental Legacies of Modernization

Time & Place: Friday March 23, Park Tower 8222, Lobby Level 5:15PM-7:15PM

Professor of History and International Studies Anand Yang will deliver a presentation “Purabiya and Beyond: The Long and Short of Migration from Colonial Bihar in the 19th Century” and be a member of a second panel.

South Asian Studies librarian Deepa Banerjee will be a discussant.

Panel 396: Supporting Research Across Asian Studies: Findings from a Large-Scale Qualitative Study

Time & Place: Sunday March 25th, location Roosevelt Room 3, Exhibit Level 8:30AM-10:30AM

 

UW Press will showcase faculty publications in the exhibit hall at booth 413

The UW’s Asia Studies Centers are co-hosting a reception for UW conference participants and alumni on Friday, March 23rd at the Marriot Wardman Hotel in Wilson A, Mezzanine, 7:30-9:30pm
