UW Libraries recently acquired subscription to Khabar Lahariya and KL Hatke, their premium English subscription service. Khabar Lahariya is India’s first and only women-led digital news publication that focuses on gender and education with a mission to build a bridge between rural and urban India. KL Hatke is exclusive rural journalism at its finest, packaged in English for national and international viewers. The content is unique and allows search functionality for their premium content. Some of the popular topics include gender and caste, youth and culture, rural development, politics and more.
From starting as a local print newspaper in 2002 to going digital, they’ve grown exponentially. Every fortnight they churn out stories from the small towns and villages of North India’s hinterlands and take a deep dive into stories that matter through their feminist lens. According to Khabar Lahariya, “KL Hatke’s premium English content adapts hyper local stories of survival, challenges, displacement, adaptation and resilience; reflecting our collective realities and aligning with the larger global narrative – making our content relevant and accessible to a global audience.”
