Leela Fernandes Named Next Director of the Jackson School

Leela Fernandes will become the next director of the Jackson School of International Studies. Fernandes is a senior scholar of South Asia whose research interests and published work span numerous fields, including politics, gender & transnational feminism, labor studies, and class analytics. She is currently the Glenda Dickerson Collegiate Professor of Women’s Studies and Political Science at the University of Michigan, and she serves as South Asia Editor of the journal Critical Asian Studies. Fernandes brings a substantial portfolio of interdisciplinary scholarship, public engagement and administrative leadership. We are looking forward to welcoming her to the UW this summer.
