Art works by two School of Art faculty affiliated with the South Asia Center were recently on display in prominent Mumbai galleries. Assistant Professor in Painting + Drawing, Sangram Majumdar, and Lecturer in Painting + Drawing, Kuldeep Singh, were part of the 11th edition of the Mumbai Gallery Weekend, which ran January 11 – 14 in Mumbai, India.
Sangram Majumdar’s somewhere elsewhere at Galerie Mirchandani + Steinrueckeon, on display January 11 through March 2, 2024, is Majumdar’s first solo exhibition in India. It includes works that draw from people and memories from his lived experience, and places them against a backdrop of indistinct picture fragments. See installation views on Galerie Mirchandani + Steinruecke’s website.
Nakhra: Towards sacred sensuality at Chemould CoLab on January 11 through January 14, is Kuldeep Singh’s first solo exhibition in Mumbai. The works being exhibited were created at the space during Singh’s summer residency in 2023. A private Odissi performance titled “Love that Never can be” is adjacent to the exhibition for the Mumbai Gallery Weekend. See installation views on Chemould CoLab’s website.
The two exhibitions were featured by Architecture Digest India in 11 art exhibitions not to miss at Mumbai Gallery Weekend 2024.
