In a profile piece by the Population Health Initiative at the University of Washington, Francis Abugbilla, a doctoral candidate at the UW Jackson School of International Studies and 2020 Population Health Social Entrepreneurship Fellow, shares his journey as a first-generation student from an agricultural community in Ghana to using his childhood farm practices to help promote safe use of pesticides in Washington state and beyond.
The fellowship program is a collaboration between the Population Health Initiative, the Buerk Center for Entrepreneurship, CoMotion and the Evans School of Public Policy & Governance at the UW.
Abugbilla has also been the recipient of a Henry M. Jackson Doctoral Fellowship funded by the Henry M. Jackson Foundation and the UW Marcy Migdal Fund for Educational Equality administered by the Center for Global Studies.
