The West Coast Model European Union is an annual simulation of a European Council summit, bringing together undergraduate students from across the United States and Canada. Students, in teams of two, play the roles of representatives of European Union Member State delegations. Participants negotiate two issues of concern for the country holding the Presidency.

Topics for the 2025 Model EU in brief:

  • Heads of Government
    • HoG 1 – Proposal to establish a European Information Integrity Office to combat disinformation

    • HoG 2 – Proposal to create an approval framework for Artificial Intelligence similar to prescription drugs

  • Energy Ministers
    • Energy 1– Proposal to create a program to accelerate progress towards 2050 Climate-Neutral EU goals

Energy 2 – Proposal for grants to support rural development and green energy outside cities

For a detailed description of these topics, please view the Communication from the Presidency below.

About the Model EU

University Registration and Fees

  • University Registration and Country Request Form 2025  NOW OPEN!

  • Registration Fees and Hotels – NEW FOR 2025
    • There is no registration fee for students or faculty at the West Coast Model EU.
    • There is no hotel reimbursement for students or faculty at the West Coast Model EU.
    • This change recognizes that registration fees and hotel reimbursements were approaching the same amount, making them no longer sensible. Additionally, the payment process was imposing administrative costs and staff burdens on both attending universities and UW.
