Q&A: Saadia Pekkanen talks UW outer space mission ahead of Nov. 6 Annual Space Symposium

Jackson School Faculty Saadia Pekkanen is interviewed by UW Notebook as the co-founder of the University of Washington’s Space and Policy Research Center (SPARC), in advance of this year’s 2020 SPARC Symposium. Pekkanen, an international relations outer space expert, talks mission of the annual symposium, the growing hub of the Pacific Northwest for the space industry, and this year’s topic on “Autonomous Operations in Space: Tech & Policy.”

The daylong 2020 SPARC Symposium will be held online on Nov. 6 and will feature introductory remarks by UW President Ana Mari Cauce and U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell as well as Major Gen. John Shaw of the U.S. Space Command. The symposium’s many participants come from academia, government and the aerospace industry in the Pacific Northwest and beyond.
