Snacks & Cyberattacks in International Studies

Join Jackson School faculty Dr. Jessica Beyer for some snacks while learning about cyberattacks. Dr. Beyer, Assistant Teaching Professor and lead of the Jackson School’s Cybersecurity Initiative, will talk about opportunities to study cybersecurity politics, technology policy, and international security. She will lead you through an exercise to understand a famous cyberattack—so bring a device that can search the internet (cell phone is fine).

Join Jackson School students, faculty, and staff for an International Film Festival at Thomson Hall! Go to a movie with your friends! Exciting and interesting information about International Studies, delicious popcorn, and sweet treats await you. Some movies may start or end with a short discussion with the students, faculty, or staff.

Space, Technology, & International Studies at the UW Planetarium 

Thursday, October 1, 10:30 – 1:30 p.m., UW Planetarium, Physics and Astronomy Auditorium (PAA), Room A220 

Discover how outer space is shaping our world! Join the Jackson School of International Studies and the UW Planetarium for a unique Dawg Daze experience exploring the intersection of space exploration, technology, and global affairs.

Professor Saadia Pekkanen, an expert on international space policy, will introduce how International Studies helps us understand the growing importance of space in diplomacy, security, science, and technological innovation. Then, journey through the cosmos with an immersive planetarium presentation led by an Astronomy Ph.D. student or staff member, showcasing the night sky, the universe, and the incredible work happening at the UW Planetarium.
Each session includes:
  • 10-minute presentation from Professor Saadia Pekkanen in the planetarium
  • 25-minute immersive planetarium show led by an Astronomy Ph.D. student or staff member
  • 5- to10-minute Q&A with both presenters
Three back-to-back sessions will be offered beginning at 10:30 a.m.
