Applications for 2025 funding now open

Latin American and Caribbean Studies is delighted to announce awards for graduate and undergraduate students. Applications are open and due Feb. 21, 2025 at 5 p.m.

2025 Peter T. Johnson Fund for Latin American and Caribbean Studies
The Peter T. Johnson Endowed Fund in Latin America and Caribbean Studies was established Dec. 5, 2016 to provide broad-based direct financial support to undergraduate students affiliated with the University of Washington’s Latin American and Caribbean Studies program in the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies. Awards will range from $500 to $1,000.

Eligibility

  • Undergraduate students registered at the University of Washington in any Latin America and Caribbean related courses, with priority given to LACS majors or minors
  • The funds will be used to support costs related to study abroad, research travel, language study, or conference presentations related to Latin America and/or the Caribbean

Application materials:

  • Resume or CV
  • Unofficial UW transcript
  • Statement of purpose (500 words maximum)
  • Name and contact information of one UW faculty reference

LACS Graduate Research Awards

  • Awards of up to $1,000 to support registered UW graduate students working in Latin America, the Caribbean, or with Latinx communities
  • Awards can be used for conference travel (even if you are not presenting a paper), graduate research, language study, or any related activities
  • Please submit a curriculum vitae and 250-word abstract detailing your project and how funds will be used. If you are requesting funds for conference travel, include the name and date of the meeting you plan to attend
  • Submit materials to lasuw@uw.edu no later than Feb. 21 at 5 p.m. On the subject line, please write “LACS graduate funding support application—YOUR LAST NAME.”
