Program on Strategy, Policy, and Diplomacy Research
Bridge Lab
The Bridge Lab
Created with the intent of “bridging the gap” between academic and professional applications, The Bridge Lab trains young scholars to make their research relevant to the real world, including policy, business, or non-profit realms. In these workshops, co-organized by the student-led Rainier Institute, students learn to communicate in oral and written form in order to use their knowledge in public ways for the sake of service to their communities.
History of the The Bridge Lab
The Bridge Lab was inaugurated by the Jackson School Ph.D. program in spring 2014 and originally administered as a regular, student-run series of lunchtime workshops.
Historically, students were required to present at least one problem-focused piece of around 500-750 words related to their dissertation research in the Bridge Lab during year 2. This piece was to be written to generally communicate the importance of their dissertation work to other faculty and students in the Jackson School, as well as to external audiences. Through this active process of reflection and engagement, students also learn how to use their scholarship to develop a public policy persona.
