International Technology Studies Minor

A minor in International Technology Studies offers students from across disciplines the opportunity to specialize in technology’s role in international issues. Students explore the underlying conditions that shape the international system and the role that technology plays in those processes, with a focus on computing and internet-connected technology, outer space technology, energy, technology related to the environment, human rights, and development. Courses are built to be accessible to students from social science degree programs and students from more technical and humanities degree programs.
Students who minor in International Technology Studies graduate conversant in major actors, institutions, and technologies that impact the international system and gain research and writing experience.

International Technology Studies Minor
35 credits as follows
- Foundations (10 credits)
- JSIS 201: Contemporary International Problems (New title effective Autumn 2026). This course was previously, The Making of the 21st Century
- One of the following – choose 1
- International Technology Courses (20 credits – intl tech course list below)
- Area Knowledge Courses (5 credits – area knowledge course list below)
- Additional Requirements–A minimum of
- 25 credits taken from outside the student’s major requirements
- 15 credits of upper-division courses.
- 18 credits taken in residence at the UW Seattle
- A grade of at least 2.0 is required in each course applied toward the minor
