A new winter quarter 2023 course taught by Jackson School lecturer Francis Abugbilla explores the theoretical and empirical approaches to war and peace in Africa. The main purpose is to introduce students to armed conflicts on the continent and the practical ways of resolving them.

About the Instructor
Francis Abugbilla has lived experiences and knowledge of the root causes of African conflicts and the mechanisms to resolve them. His research focuses on peacebuilding and conflict resolution in post-conflict societies.

Abugbilla is the recipient of numerous awards, grants and fellowships, including as a Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation 2021 Emerging Scholar for his dissertation work on post-conflict peace-building in Africa. Abugbilla received his Ph.D. in International Studies from the University of Washington.
