Jackson School Professor Sabine Lang, who is the Jean Monnet Chair of Civil Society, Inclusion & Diversity in the European Union and Director of the Center for West European Studies at the UW, has co-edited a book titled, “Party Politics and the Implementation of Gender Quotas: Resisting Institutions” (Palgrave/Macmillan, April 2023).
Co-edited with Petra Meier, University of Antwerp, Belgium and Birgit Sauer, University of Vienna, Austria, the edited volume explores how party politics impacts the implementation of gender quotas in parliaments of 17 European countries. Chapter authors identify actors, institutions, and cultural legacies that shape how quotas are put into practice, identify points of resistance, and discuss the way forward in reaching gender parity in legislatures.
The book was co-funded by the European Union.
