Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Rising autocracy. Geopolitical turmoil. Climate crisis. How did we get here and what are possible ways out? This course addresses these questions by examining how states have attempted to solve global problems over the previous century. It covers how powerful actors have shaped the international system and how those who feel left out always find ways to resist.
It also traces how ideas about politics, society, and the economy become dominant, get challenged, and recede. In this course, you will gain a better understanding of the major events that have shaped the international system, learn how to make sense of current geopolitical events, and think critically about the world.
