UW’s Center for European Studies and the European Union Center hosted a workshop on “Reforming Southern Europe” June 2nd. The event was organized by Professor’s Steve Pfaff and Edgar Kiser of UW’s Sociology department and brought together distinguished scholars from around the world, including Stefano Sacchi (Universita degli Studi di Torino), Ignacio Sanchez-Cuenca (Juan Carlos III University, Madrid), Orfeo Fioretos (Temple University), Carolyn Warner (Arizona State University), Alison Johnston (Oregon State University), Apostolis Papakostas (Sodertorn University, Stockholm), and Jim Caporaso, Christine Ingebritsen, Taso Lagos, Beatrice Magistro, and Kevin Aslett from the University of Washington.
The conference focused on the varying aspects of Europe’s sovereign debt crisis with an emphasis on the underlying causes of the crisis and the reforms taking place in response to the crisis. The conference was made possible with the support of CES, the EU Center, the Department of Political Science, the Department of Spanish and Portuguese Studies, and the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies.
