2024-25 Hellenic Studies scholars announced

This year, four University of Washington students received over $10,000 in scholarships from the Hellenic Studies program in recognition of their academic work and interest in Greek culture.


The Kravas Scholarship

This year’s Irene Kravas Scholarship in Hellenic Studies went to biochemisty major Sophia Arons. The scholarship provides undergraduates up to $4,000 to students who are interested in ancient and modern Hellenic culture. According to Arons, her award will be put toward the Hellenic Studies Summer Abroad program.

The Soulandros Scholarship

Noor Alkaledy, an education, communities, and organization major, was named the 2025 recipient of the Nicholas and Aggeliki Soulandros Endowed Scholarship. Awards provide up to $3,000 for undergraduate or graduate students in the Hellenic Studies program.

The Kaltsounis Scholarship

Anthropology major Carly Torres was named this year’s awardee for the Theodore Kaltsounis Hellenic Studies Scholarship. The Kaltsounis Scholarship is named after the founder of the UW Hellenic Studies program, Ted Kaltsounis, and provides undergraduate and graduate students with up to $3,000 for research and travel.

The Eleftherios and Mary Rouvelas Endowed Writing Prize in Hellenic Studies

The 2025 recipient of the Eleftherios and Mary Rouvelas Endowed Writing Prize is Luke Giuntoli, a graduate student in the Department of Classics. Students are awarded up to $2,000 for writing related to themes in Hellenic Studies, with Giuntoli being recognized for a chapter in his master’s thesis called “The Division Myth and its Development.”
