Robert Pekkanen Quoted on the U.S. Two Party Political System

February 15, 2021

In a January 27, 2021 article titled “America’s Exceptional Two Party System” Robert Pekkanen, professor of Japanese politics at the Jackson School and co-author of “The Oxford Handbook of Electoral Systems“, gives his insights into the U.S. 2-party electoral system in combination with presidential-ism.

The piece, which appears on page 4 of Nihon Keizai Shimbun, one of Japan’s leading daily newspapers, often called “Japan’s Wall Street Journal,”  includes discussion on the fragmentation of party systems in many countries, changes in political communication, and the rise of populist parties and politicians.

The Oxford Handbook of Electoral Systems, originally published in 2018, is now available in paperback form.
