This year’s Community College Master Teacher Institute (CCMTI), a two-day curriculum development workshop for college educators organized by the Jackson School’s Title VI National Resource Centers, was held at the UW campus on July 11-12, 2019. This year’s theme focused on “fake news,” disinformation, and media literacy.
In total, 28 participants from 14 community colleges in Washington State and Oregon, specializing in a diverse group of disciplines, gathered to learn how to incorporate innovative ideas and insights into their existing curricula. Participants developed practical activities to bring back to the classroom and had opportunities to network with colleagues. East Asia Center Managing Director Paul Carrington participated in the Panel on Asia, presenting a case study concerning the influence of Chinese ‘sharp power’ in the 2020 Taiwanese Presidential Election.
