About
Indra Ekmanis defended her doctoral dissertation with distinction in June 2017. She was selected as a Kennan Institute research scholar and is continuing her work in Washington, D.C. Indra is working in the Kennan Institute at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, studying the effects of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty’s Latvian service during the Singing Revolution and fall of the Soviet Union.
The majority of Indra’s undergraduate and graduate work focused on post-Soviet security, protest and culture, and she collaborates closely with the Latvian Academy of Culture, University of Latvia and Daugavpils University. Indra earned her Bachelor’s in Global Studies from Arizona State University and Master’s in International Studies from the Jackson School at University of Washington as a multi-year recipient of the Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowship.
