UW Asia-Pacific Army War College Fellowship Program 2022-2023

Since 2015, the Jackson School has partnered with the U.S. Army War College to allow military leaders to engage in-depth on U.S. policy toward the Asia region in an academic setting. This year, the Jackson School is hosting two U.S. military personnel to research a policy issue on Asia and engage with the UW and broader Seattle community in a yearlong program:

Lieutenant Colonel Ryan Bulger

Lieutenant Colonel Ryan Bulger most recently served as Division Operations Officer, 7th Infantry Division, at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Tacoma, Washington. During his 20-year career in the U.S. Army he has served in leadership roles ranging from Company Commander through Squadron Commander and as a staff officer in multiple operational and strategic-level headquarters. His awards include the Bronze Star, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, and the Joint Commendation Medal. LTC Bulger received a M.S. in Adult and Continuing Education from Kansas State University and a Master of Military Art & Science, U.S. Army Command and General Staff College.

Lieutenant Colonel Janel Weise

Lieutenant Colonel Janel Wiese most recently served as the Deputy Commanding Officer of the Region Support Group for the Montana Army National Guard. A logistics officer, her 30+ year career includes deployments to Bosnia and Afghanistan. She has served in engineering and logistical roles from platoon to brigade. Other assignments include Battalion Commander Recruiting and Retention Battalion, Battalion Executive Officer and Support Operations Officer and Assistant Professor of Military Science. She earned a M.S. in School Counseling from University of West Alabama.
