Ph.D. student discovers Seattle Jewish community ties to his hometown in Turkey

Ph.D. candidate and Stroum Center for Jewish Studies research fellow Ozgur Ozkan blogs about his discovery that his hometown in Turkey has had historical ties to Seattle and its Sephardic Jewish community in his post “Reimagining Sephardic Çanakkale and its Ties to Seattle.”

Ozgur’s research focuses on nationalism, ethnic politics, state-society relations and civil-military relations in the Middle East.

Hear Ozgur present his latest research “Non-Muslim Military Service and Minority Experience in the Late Ottoman Empire” on Thursday, May 11, 12:00 pm- 1:30 pm. Thomson Hall Room 317.
