HYBRID WARFARE, DISINFORMATION AND THE NATO RESPONSE

In the months leading up to and during the 2022 Ukraine conflict, hybrid warfare and disinformation operations disabled critical infrastructure and shaped public opinion in Europe. Today, malign influence continues across the continent, impacting supply chains, energy security and the food supply. Using the newly released book What Ukraine Taught NATO About Hybrid Warfare, written by the instructor, UW students and NATO officials as a guide, students will have the opportunity to take a deep dive into the emerging media, methods and motivations of today’s hybrid wars. Students will have the opportunity to present their proposals for disarming disinformation to the European Centre of Excellence for Countering Hybrid Threats, which works closely with the EU and NATO.
