Jessica L. Beyer, Jackson School Assistant Teaching Professor and a lead in the School’s Cybersecurity Initiative, has received a University of Washington 2025 Outstanding Undergraduate Research Mentor Award.

Beyer was one of nine mentors across the University who received the award.

Bestowed by the UW’s Office of Undergraduate Research each year, nominations for those who excel in mentoring are made by student presenters in the Undergraduate Research Symposium.

“It is always extremely meaningful to receive any honor related to working with undergraduates because it is the part of my job that I love the most, but it is particularly meaningful to me when an award is because my students have nominated me for it,” said Beyer.

In their letter to Beyer announcing the award, the faculty and staff selection committee noted that in addition to the student nomination statements, they extolled Beyer’s “efforts toward supporting undergraduate researchers over time; your commitments to promoting inclusion, belonging, and student wellbeing; as well as the high quality of work that your students have produced.”

“I have learned so much from my students and what I have learned has contributed to my teaching as well as informed the research I do,” Beyer said.
