Jackson School Alumna Amy Sommers co-authors piece and another alum quoted on US-China policy // Seattle Times

As co-author of the opinion piece “The Path to a New China PolicyAmy Sommers, who received her undergraduate degree with a focus on China Studies from the Jackson and is a member of the National Committee of U.S.-China Relations, examines what President-elect Joe Biden could do to strengthen U.S. foreign policy toward China.

In the article, Sommers also highlights the value of the Jackson School’s China Program: “One of us benefited from the University of Washington’s Jackson School of International Studies’ strong China studies capabilities before studying law and practicing in China for more than a decade.”

One of the experts quoted in the article is Spencer Cohen, who earned his M.A. in China Studies and Geography at the University of Washington and is a senior economist with Community Attributes and World Affairs Council Seattle Fellow (2020-2021).
