LACS Annual Undergraduate Essay Contest

Every year LACS holds an annual essay contest for undergraduate students studying Latin America or the Caribbean. The winner receives a special prize and recognition at the LACS End of the Year party, and their essay is featured in our news section of our website.

Deadline for submission to LACS essay contest: SPRING 2025

The Latin American and Caribbean Studies Program is inviting submissions by students interested in the Latin America and/or Caribbean regions to its seventh Annual UW-LACS Undergraduate Essay Competition.

The competition is for current or recent essays (written during 2023-2024 school year). The winning essay writer will receive a special prize and be recognized at the LACS End of the Year party. In addition, the winning essay will be featured on our website.

• The subject of the essay should fall within the field of Latin American and Caribbean Studies. Essays may be of any length.

• Submissions must be from a student majoring or minoring in LACS.

• Include your full name, home department, email and phone number in the submission.

Please submit your essay to lasuw@uw.edu by May 22nd, 2024 with the subject line: “Essay Competition – 2024, [your last name]”

Essays should be pasted into the body of the email and attached as a Word document.
