Nadine Fabbi, Managing Director of the Canadian Studies Center at the University of Washington, has been invited to serve as Co-Editor of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Canadian Studies by the International Council for Canadian Studies. The journal is published by the University of Toronto Press.

Fabbi’s role as one of three Co-Editors involves making recommendations for decisions on manuscripts to ensure high-level scholarly standards, highlight research on Canada being done in Canada as well as abroad, reflect the bilingual character of Canada and the diversity of Canadian society, and reflect diverse approaches to Canadian studies. Her two-year term begins June 15, 2018.
Fabbi has served as the Managing Director of UW’s Canadian Studies Center, housed in the Jackson School, for almost 20 years. The Canadian Studies Center, one of eight U.S. Department of Education designated Title VI National Resource Centers in the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies, is one of just two of its kind in the nation. It also forms a National Resource Center with the Center for Canadian-American Studies at Western Washington University (WWU).
UW and WWU offer the only two majors in Canadian Studies in the nation and UW offers the only minor in Arctic studies in the contiguous states, and the only Arctic minor with a focus on Canada’s leadership role in the Arctic. The Canadian Studies Center is also the first and only National Resource Center in the nation to award Foreign Language and Area Studies fellowships to students to study the Inuit language in Canada, Inuktitut. Since 1987, the Canadian Studies Center has played a key leadership role on the campus, regionally and nationally, in promoting a better understanding of Canada and the Canada–U.S. relationship.
Founder and editor of the Arctic and International Relations Series, a publication launched in 2015 that focuses on understanding the Arctic as a unique world region and the inclusion of Arctic Indigenous peoples in decision-making for the region, Fabbi is also a founding member and chair of the minor in Arctic Studies at the University of Washington – a joint interdisciplinary minor between the School of Oceanography and Jackson School of International Studies.
As part of the School’s focus on bridging the gap between academic research and real-world policymaking, Fabbi additionally serves as Arctic Initiative Lead for the International Policy Institute, launched and funded in part through the generous support of Carnegie Corporation of New York.

The International Journal of Canadian Studies / Revue internationale d’études canadiennes enables Canadianists outside Canada to disseminate the results of their research within Canada; conversely, it enables Canadianists abroad to receive current research from Canadian scholars.
