The Center for Canadian Studies welcomes our 11th cohort of Corbett Scholars, who will be participating in an exchange between the University of Washington, The University of Victoria, and the University of British Columbia. Congratulations to Ayden Tran, Meghan Jean-Francois, Isabel Man, Jena Alam, and Shannon Deng! Corbett Scholars build community, connection, and understanding between the Pacific Northwest, British Columbia and beyond!
Jena Alam is a Biochemistry major at the University of Washington with a deep interest in policies related to biotechnology and healthcare systems. At the University of British Columbia, she is looking forward to exploring how Canada’s universal healthcare system shapes scientific research, academic culture, and policy priorities, and how that contrasts with the privatized structure she has observed studying in the US.
Shannon Deng is studying Food, Nutrition and Health at the University of British Columbia. She is looking forward to spending the fall at the University of Washington as a part of the Corbett Scholars, experiencing student life in Seattle, meeting new friends, and exploring new academic interests during her time abroad.
Meghan Jean-Francois is a 3rd year biomedical science student at University of Washington Tacoma. She is looking forward to meeting new people and learning more about the Canadian health system during her study aboard.
Isabel Man is currently studying Finance, Marketing, and International Business at the University of Washington. She is excited to be studying abroad at the University of British Columbia, where she hopes to take on new academic experiences, learning alongside students from various backgrounds/cultures.
Ayden Tran is a senior undergraduate student excited to study at the University of British Columbia with a focus on Geography, a subject that comes with world-class offerings at UBC. As a student of geography, who is particularly interested in human geography, urban planning and transportation, he intends to explore the urban development of British Columbia.
