About
Md. Golam Mostofa Hasan is currently studying for an LL.M. in Sustainable International Development at the University of Washington School of Law. He has been awarded the Barer Fellowship by the Barer Institute for Law and Global Human Services. He is an assistant professor at the School of Law, Jagannath University, Bangladesh. He is also an enrolled advocate and a member of the Dhaka Bar Association. He has served as the Program Director of the LLM (Professional) Program and the Masters in Human Rights and Security Studies Program at the Jagannath University School of Law. Before joining Jagannath University, he served as Chairman (Head) of the newly established Law School at the University of Barisal. He has been teaching law for the last ten years, aiming to encourage and promote a legal education centered on human rights and social welfare. He participated in a wide range of extra-curricular activities; to note a few, including moot court competitions at home and abroad, trainer at Rohingya refugee camps in Bangladesh, a student exchange program in the USA, street law and human rights programs, etc.
Mostofa’s research and publications center on the broad areas of sustainable development law, environmental law, climate change and international trade and business, procedural law, and justice reforms. He has published two textbooks on civil procedural law and the interpretation of statutes. His interest lies in the development of people on the margins, particularly how laws and legal institutions can be used effectively to empower disadvantaged people and improve their conditions of life on the ground. He aspires to assist the marginalized in his rural community, especially the extremely poor, and empower vulnerable women and girls to develop and prosper sustainably.
He obtained his Bachelor of Law (Hons) and Master of Laws degrees from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. He loves reading philosophies and literature and writes fiction, including short stories and science fiction.
