Danwei Zhu is interested in conflict resolution and non-traditional security issues in Africa, especially in the region of West Africa. Her research focuses on the evolution of regional security institutions and how these organizations participate in security governance, for instance, the combat against terrorism, the approach to address intrastate conflicts and transnational organized crime. The role of ECOWAS in security governance is one of her main research interests.

Danwei received her B.A. in international politics from Northeast Normal University and M.A. in Diplomacy from Nanjing University, China.
