UW Sephardic Studies “Muestros Artistas” symposium, Devin Naar feature on KUOW

May 4, 2023

In a KUOW piece titled, “‘We are still here’ – the art and culture of Seattle’s Sephardic community,” which aired April 19, 2023, the Jackson School’s Stroum Center for Jewish Studies Sephardic Studies Program is highlighted for its symposium, held in Feb. 2023, titled, “Muestros Artistas,” which means “Our Artists,” that featured six Sephardic artists — a mix of musicians, writers, and painters from all over the U.S.

For the article, KUOW Arts and Culture reporter Mike Davis interviewed Devin Naar, Isaac Alhadeff Professor in Sephardic Studies at the Stroum Center for Jewish Studies, during the event in February to discuss the history of Seattle’s Sephardic community, the preservation of the Ladino language and how the work of Sephardic artists can connect us all.
