Patrick Thomsen, who earned his doctorate in international studies at the Jackson School and is currently a lecturer in Pacific Studies in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Auckland in New Zealand, is featured in an article by the University for being awarded a national Health Research Council Emerging Researcher first grant of $249,980 to lead his three-year Manalagi Project.
The project looks at the impact of stigma and discrimination on the health and wellbeing of Pacific and Rainbow Queer people. It is the first intersectional study of its type in New Zealand that focuses on diaspora communities.
The Health Research Council of New Zealand is one of only three major contestable funds for research-active scholars.
