Jackson School Professor Devin Naar becomes first Isaac Alhadeff professor at UW

February 10, 2016

Prof. Devin Naar introduces the program at Seattle’s 3rd annual International Ladino Day celebration, December 2015.

Professor Devin Naar, current chair of the UW Sephardic Studies Program at the Jackson School of International Studies and an Assistant Professor in the Department of History, has become the first recipient of the Isaac Alhadeff Professorship in Sephardic Studies at the University of Washington. This Professorship has been generously funded by the Isaac Alhadeff Foundation, a local philanthropy rooted in the Sephardic Jewish community.

Since Naar’s arrival in 2011, UW Sephardic Studies has broken new ground in both scholarship and community engagement, including the establishment of the Sephardic Studies Digital Library & Museum, for which the collections have now surpassed the Library of Congress and Harvard University.
