In a commentary published in The Globe Post, Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies affiliate faculty member, and geoscientist Scott L. Montgomery explores emerging bipartisan opposition to Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke’s proposal to open up as much as ninety percent of U.S.’ offshore area to oil and gas leasing. According to Montgomery the resistance stems from concerns on both sides of the isle about environmental degradation and consequent impact on tourism as well as quality of life in these areas.
