What was your reaction to receiving the Ivy Hovey Fitch Endowed Scholarship?
When I first read the email, I was honestly shocked to be reading my own name — it was such a great
surprise! I called my mom to share the good news, and she was incredibly happy — not just for me, but
also for her bank account!
How will this award help your goals and career path?
This scholarship has helped my family financially, of course — but even more than that, it gave me a huge confidence boost at a time when I really needed it. Being recognized in this way, especially with a career goal that’s a bit outside the traditional path, was incredibly validating. My goal of working in Formula 1 may seem unconventional for an international studies major, which is why receiving this scholarship was such a meaningful and encouraging surprise. It shows me that there’s room and support for students who want to bridge worlds and apply global thinking in unexpected industries. This support empowers me to keep moving forward, seeking opportunities that combine diplomacy, sustainability, and international collaboration. I want to be part of the team that bridges borders, brings people together, and drives change — literally and figuratively. The Ivy Hovey Fitch Scholarship is fuel in the tank — supporting the journey ahead.
What key skills have you learned at the Jackson School that you’ll apply to your career?
The Jackson School has equipped me with the skills to navigate our changing world: a strong understanding of international systems, cross-cultural collaboration, and the ability to think critically about global challenges like sustainability. I’ve learned to ask thoughtful questions, listen across cultures, and make sense of complexity, which is pretty much the daily job description of anyone working in international motorsport. Whether I’m navigating language differences or strategizing on global environmental initiatives, I’ll be carrying Jackson School skills into the fast lane.
What advice would you give to students considering applying for academic Jackson School scholarships?
Don’t count yourself out — apply, even if your path feels unconventional or you’re not sure you “fit the mold.” These scholarships exist to support a wide range of students, not just those following traditional paths. I almost didn’t apply because I thought my goals were too far outside the box, but what I’ve learned is that your unique perspective is your strength. Be honest about what you’re passionate about, and let your curiosity guide your story. Start early, ask for feedback, and treat the application as a chance to reflect on what matters most to you. I was surprised by how much I gained from the process, even before I knew the result. You never know who you’ll connect with or how your vision might resonate.
Anything else you’d like readers to know?
Stay curious. Curiosity leads to new connections, new ideas, and unexpected paths. The Jackson School has shown me the value of asking thoughtful questions and seeking understanding in complex spaces. That mindset — combined with persistence and openness — can take you further than you imagine. Don’t be afraid to follow a non-traditional path — sometimes those are the most rewarding.
