Jackson School alumnus on Trump’s reversal in Syria was a play to keep his base intact // PRI The World

November 4, 2019

Randy Thompson, a Jackson School doctoral alumnus and Senior Fellow who is now with the Interfaith Peacebuilding Initiative, pens a North Carolina Public Radio analysis article about President Trump’s role reversal in Syria.

Thompson writes: “US President Donald Trump’s unilateral withdrawal of U.S. troops from Syria in October drew widespread condemnation for abandoning Kurdish allies to a Turkish invasion. But it was concern for a different group of minorities — and the 2020 election — that helped to usher in a ceasefire.”
