In 2012, a JSIS team completed a Pacific Rim comparative study to evaluate the city of Seattle, Washington and its global competitiveness. Through careful political, legal, and economic assessment of select Pacific Rim cites, such as Vancouver, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Kuala Lumpur, student researchers determined that investment in human mobility, productivity, and intellectual capital allowed these cities to grow competitively. From this comparative case-study, the team provide best practice recommendations for the city of Seattle.
