Christoph Giebel, associate professor of international studies and history, is quoted in an article titled, “Op-ed published in Asian Weekly led to controversial plaque removal,” about the May 7 UW panel discussion on “Volunteering for Empire: The Wars of 1898 and Seattle’s Volunteer Park.”

The event, hosted by the Southeast Asia Center at the University of Washington, focused on colonialism and imperialism in Asia surrounding a memorial plaque, which was recently removed from Seattle’s Volunteer Park, due to concerns of accuracy.
