Campus rally calls for release of Xiyue Wang, Jackson School alum imprisoned in Iran | The Daily

A rally and media appeal to President Donald Trump was held in Red Square on May 8 in support of Jackson School and UW alumnus Xiyue Wang, who has been detained by the Islamic Republic of Iran for nearly two years after being accused of espionage in 2016. Wang, currently a Ph.D. candidate at Princeton University, was arrested in August 2016 while conducting research for his dissertation on the history of Iran’s Qajar dynasty.

The Human Rights Clinic at UW Law School and the Jackson School Student Association organized the event.
