We consider applicants whose work is understood to be transregional, transnational, global, or comparative in nature. Preference will be given to proposals that address one of these four themes broadly construed: 1) global literacy; 2) global health; 3) security; and/or 4) the environment. There is no restriction in terms of historical period, discipline, world area, subject, or issue.

The Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship provides undergraduate, graduate, and professional school students with financial support to develop fluency in less commonly taught languages (LCTLs) and expertise in the regions in which these languages are spoken. Every year the Center for Global Studies awards between 12-15 fellowships to UW students.
