Jianyuan Sun

Jianyuan Sun is a Ph.D. student from the History Department. His academic interests range widely from Russian empire in Central Asia to Chinese/Qing empire in Xinjiang. Currently, he is working on his Ph.D. project “Empire building in the Ferghana Valley: Khoqand Khanate between Russia, China and the Islamic World”. Specifically, through examination of this small Central Asian state, he would like to look into the relation between Khoqand and the three larger world regions with global relevance, namely, Russia, China and the Islamic World. Prior to UW, he received his BA from University College London and MSc from London School of Economics.
