There are 707 archival institutions in Ukraine. Network of state archival institutions of Ukraine which is subordinate to the State Archival Service of Ukraine includes 707 institutions, among them 9 central archival institutions, 25 regional archives, 2 archives in the cities of Kyiv and Sevastopol, 488 archival divisions of district state administrations, 170 archival divisions of city councils and 13 branch archives. Also 1956 labour archives under the authority of city councils and district state administrations are functioning in Ukraine, 311 of them are body corporates. The most ancient document preserved at the Ukrainian state archives is the debt letter from the old-Russ city of Zvenygorod (the first third of the XIII century; Central State Historical Archives of Ukraine in Lviv) written on beresta.
